Still Some Static
As a first cut and sewn collection, my initial idea was the word “blossom”. The word to me embodies the idea of growth, ugly to beautiful, and breaking out of the shell and growing confident and colorful. Prior to this body of work I had never publicly expressed my art or designs. This collection and show was truly a blossoming moment for me. It felt like I was breaking out of the chains. Into the public eye as as a fashion designer.
When designing each garment I wanted to focus on how I can create different volumes and how I can make garments grow. I wanted to let the clothes open up and breathe. Let them blossom. The use of pleats allowed the garments to open and spread… to blossom. The straps around the baggy pants can create different volumes. Trap the pant then let it explode with volume. To blossom.
AND… as the title of the collection says, Still Some Static. I have a long road ahead of me and to say that I am designing at my highest quality is a stretch. The rough edges and finishes as well as the sloppiness in the styling embrace the concept of static. Next will be high definition but for the meantime allow me to blossom.
